Hero MotoCorp Surpasses Ola Electric, Climbs to Fourth Spot in India’s EV Market

Hero MotoCorp

In a major shake-up within India’s electric two-wheeler segment, Hero MotoCorp has overtaken Ola Electric to claim the fourth position in October 2025, according to Vahan retail data.

Hero’s EV division, Vida, registered 7,258 electric scooter sales as of October 14, surpassing Ola Electric’s 6,335 units during the same period. The development underscores a notable shift in India’s EV landscape, where legacy two-wheeler manufacturers are now outpacing once-dominant startups.

At the top of the leaderboard, Bajaj Auto continues to lead the pack with 12,620 units sold, closely followed by TVS Motor with 12,246 units, and Ather Energy — the only startup remaining in the top three — with 10,777 units.

For Ola Electric, which held the market leadership position since its 2021 debut, this marks its first drop to fifth place. Analysts attribute this decline to quality concerns and after-sales service gaps, which have eroded consumer confidence in recent months.

Hero MotoCorp’s steady climb has been fueled by the strong performance of its VX2 range, launched in July 2025, consistently achieving over 10,000 monthly sales:

  • 10,544 units in July

  • 13,374 units in August

  • 12,799 units in September

The VX2 Go model is priced at ₹44,990 under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan and ₹73,840 with the battery included, while the VX2 Plus starts at ₹57,990 (BaaS) and goes up to ₹82,790 with the battery.

Additionally, Hero’s V2 series, introduced in December 2024, has gained traction with three models ranging between ₹74,000 and ₹1.2 lakh. The entry-level V2 Lite, equipped with a 2.2kWh battery, offers a range of 94 km per charge.

With its mid-October sales nearly matching the entire total from October 2024 (7,356 units), Hero MotoCorp is on pace to double its year-on-year growth by the end of this month. The company’s market share in the electric two-wheeler category has surged from around 5% last year to over 12% now, signaling a strong comeback by traditional automakers in India’s rapidly evolving EV sector.
