OpenAI offers 1-year free ChatGPT Go access in India starting November 4

In a major move to strengthen its connection with India’s rapidly growing AI community, OpenAI has announced one-year free access to ChatGPT Go for all new Indian users signing up from November 4, 2025.

The announcement coincides with OpenAI’s first-ever DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru on the same day, underscoring India’s growing importance as one of ChatGPT’s largest and most active markets worldwide.

ChatGPT Go, introduced earlier this year, is OpenAI’s mid-tier subscription plan designed to make its advanced AI capabilities more affordable and accessible. Powered by the company’s latest model, GPT-5, the plan offers higher message limits, more daily image generations, enhanced file and image uploads, and an expanded memory for personalized conversations.

After its launch in India in August, ChatGPT Go saw a tremendous response, with the number of paid ChatGPT users in the country more than doubling within the first month. This success later led OpenAI to expand the plan to nearly 90 global markets.

India now stands out as ChatGPT’s second-largest market, home to millions of students, professionals, and developers who are increasingly using AI for creativity, productivity, research, and learning.

OpenAI stated that the new free-access offer aligns with its “India-first” strategy and complements the government’s IndiaAI Mission, which aims to strengthen AI infrastructure and innovation across the country. The company is also working with civil society organizations, educational institutions, and government programs to promote AI literacy and ensure equitable access to cutting-edge AI technologies beyond major cities.

Nick Turley, OpenAI’s Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, emphasized the company’s commitment to India, saying:

“Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across the country access and benefit from advanced AI. We’re excited to see the incredible things our users will build, learn, and achieve with these tools.”

This initiative marks a key step in OpenAI’s efforts to make AI adoption in India more inclusive and widespread, empowering users across the nation to explore the potential of GPT-5–powered innovation.
