Ola Unveils ‘Shakti’ – Its First Energy Storage Solution to Boost India’s Green Energy Mission

Ola launches energy storage solution Shakti to complement green energy push

Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ola Electric has expanded beyond vehicles with the launch of its first residential battery energy storage system (BESS), called Shakti. The product aims to support India’s transition to renewable energy by storing excess green power for later use.

Announcing the launch, Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said the company’s goal is to create an energy storage network capable of storing up to half of India’s renewable energy output, helping balance supply and demand.

Powered by Ola’s in-house 4680 Bharat Cells—the same advanced batteries used in its electric scooters—Shakti is designed to power large household appliances and can also be deployed across sectors such as agriculture, defence, and telecommunications.

The system will be available in 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh (dual 1.5 kWh stack), 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh configurations, priced at an introductory ₹29,999, ₹55,999, ₹1,19,999, and ₹1,59,999, respectively for the first 10,000 units. Reservations are open for a token amount of ₹999, with deliveries scheduled to begin on Makar Sankranti 2026.

With a battery efficiency of 98%, Shakti supports an input voltage range of 120–290 volts, can be fully charged in two hours, and offers up to 1.5 hours of backup on full load.

Aggarwal emphasized that Shakti is fully conceptualized, designed, and manufactured in India and will be produced at Ola’s Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu—enabling scalability without additional capital or R&D costs.

“People assumed our Gigafactory would only make automotive cells,” Aggarwal said. “But its biggest application will actually be in grid and battery energy storage systems.”

Following the announcement, Ola Electric’s shares surged 5%, hitting the upper circuit at ₹55.37 on the NSE as of 11:26 a.m.
